A companion piece of sorts to Westler, filmed in East Germany and the first GDR film on homosexuality. The story of closeted teacher torn between his girlfriend and a man he meets in a bar who learns to be true to himself against all conventions, it’s full of everyday images and situations of a nation in its final stages. The Wall fell during its premiere in East Berlin’s Kino International Festival.
