Queer Kino

The title of Rosa von Praunheim’s 1971 film summed it up: It Is Not the Homosexual Who Is Perverse, But the Society in Which He Lives. The film became a rallying call, kickstarting the West German Gay Liberation Movement in earnest. R.W. Fassbinder and Werner Schroeter had already blazed the trail and in the years following, Queer Cinema thrived in the realm of the German art film. For World Pride Month, the Quad presents this selection of German arthouse stand outs.

Co-presented with the Goethe-Institut as part of their Queer as German Folk event series, in collaboration with Wieland Speck.
