With the pedigrees of George Bernard Shaw’s play and a screenplay adaptation by Graham Greene in hand, Preminger discovered and cast a novice, American teenager Jean Seberg, to portray Joan during the last two years of her life as seen through her rising in, and then falling out of, favor with Charles VII (Richard Widmark). With John Gielgud, Richard Todd, Anton Walbrook, Finlay Currie, Harry Andrews, Kenneth Haigh, and Margot Grahame.
