A torrid romance surfaces in and around a secluded lake, and the still waters run deep as Pierre Deladonchamps (the lone César Award winner, France’s Oscars equivalent, among eight nominations the picture received) falls hard for Christophe Paou — and then becomes privy to the latter’s killer secret. Strand Releasing, which has over the years distributed dozens of queer-themed films (with many having long runs here at the Quad), opened the movie in the U.S. — and it was the first of Guiraudie’s works to garner an audience stateside.
