In a prototypical erotic drama scenario, every member of an upscale Milan family—including maid Laura Betti, named Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival— falls prey to handsome stranger Terence Stamp’s ministrations, sexual and otherwise. Scripting minimal dialogue for the characters, Pasolini avails himself of Ennio Morricone’s score and of his committed cast, with Wiazemsky making an especially strong impression as the daughter who is never the same after Stamp’s visit.
