In the 1840s, Charlotte (Marie-France Pisier), Emily (Isabelle Adjani), and Anne (Isabelle Huppert) nurture their artistic aspirations, each publishing a successful novel. Tragedy strikes as their poet brother (Pascal Greggory) succumbs to drink and depression and Emily and Anne are stricken with tuberculosis. Will Charlotte’s lot be any better?
