Glenville’s final film, adapted by Graham Greene from the latter’s novel, reteamed him after Becket with Richard Burton, who stars as a hotelier romancing diplomat Peter Ustinov’s wife Taylor while all around them Haiti endures a dictatorship. Also in the terrific cast: Alec Guinness, James Earl Jones, Paul Ford, Roscoe Lee Browne, Zakes Mokae, Raymond St. Jacques, Cicely Tyson, Georg Stanford Brown, Gloria Foster, and the eternally luminescent Lillian Gish.
