Millionaire diplomat Gregory Peck and wife Remick’s baby is stillborn; to shield her from the trauma, he substitutes an orphaned newborn. He then resettles them in the U.K., where Remick comes to fear that the boy is manifesting Evil. A horror hit, the movie landed Donner on Hollywood’s A-list; earned prolific composer Jerry Goldsmith his only Oscar; and spawned sequels and spinoffs. With BAFTA-nominated Billie Whitelaw as the nanny creeping out Remick.
