In Reagan-era New Jersey, 17-year-old aspiring painter Anna (Liza Weil of Gilmore Girls) dreams of getting into Cooper Union, but senioritis prevails: she’s too busy partying with her best friend Brenda (Chad Morgan) and working on losing her virginity. With its roving Linklater-esque view of wayward teens, choice needle drops from Chrissie Hynde to Aimee Mann, and a frank, compassionate portrait of female sexuality that still feels fresh, this sole feature by writer-director Susan Skoog deserves a place in the teen movie canon.
