In Timbuktu the people endure a chaotic Jihadist reign of terror in which music, laughter, cigarettes, even soccer are forbidden. Outside town, Kidane lives peacefully in the dunes with his wife, his daughter, and their 12-year-old shepherd until their destiny changes when Kidane accidentally slays the fisherman who caused the death of “GPS,” his beloved cow.
