John Huston: Hollywood Maverick

This August, the Quad Cinema invites you to come celebrate one of American cinema’s premier storytellers and a key member of one of it’s greatest dynasties. John Huston’s career stretched from the studio era’s Golden Age into the bold experimentation of New Hollywood and beyond. This series traces that remarkable journey through four defining works: The Asphalt Jungle (1950), the groundbreaking crime classic that helped shape the modern heist film; The Misfits (1961), a poignant portrait of drifting souls and the end of the American frontier; Fat City (1972), a deeply compassionate study of failure, resilience, and forgotten lives; and Chinatown (1974), in which Huston co-stars as one of cinema’s most unforgettable villains. Together, these films reveal Huston’s enduring vision as an artist and the evolution of cinema itself throughout the 20th century.
