After an already-successful recording career, Brooklyn’s own Barbra Streisand came to the movies at 25, winning the Oscar and Golden Globe for her debut as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl. Streisand’s screen presence was larger-than-life; her breathtaking singing voice and deft comic chops turned a series of musicals and comedies into box-office gold. She emerged as a major force behind the camera, as well: she was the first woman to win an Oscar for Best Song (for A Star Is Born) and a Golden Globe for Best Director (for Yentl). In honor of her recent 75th birthday, the Quad is pleased to salute the evergreen big-screen work of the one, the only, Barbra.
